STOP in the NAME of LOVE

November 18, 2015

The phrase I hear people use the most is “How busy I am” or “I don’t have time”. The older I get the more I realise that the world seems to determine how successful you are by how busy you are, or by how busy you pretend to be. We live in a world where everything is instant, a world where ‘we want it all and we want it now’. Therefore to even think about stopping for some time seems to be a preposterous idea.

I must admit that I too sometimes enjoy being busy, I feel that I am alive when I am doing something. But there was a time when I was not busy, I used to pray and ask God to give me opportunities to bring His Kingdom now. I must have spent hours dreaming and speaking to God about my dreams. Today I have seen some of these dreams come true. There are times when I get so caught up in the dream that I forget about the One who gave me the dream.

It is only now that I realise that it was those very moments I spent in conversation with God that gave me the strength and courage to see God’s dream come true.

That is why it is important for us all to STOP in the Name of LOVE. No matter how busy you are, no matter how famous you are, your strength comes from the relationship you have with God. He is LOVE and He only wants what is best for you. That is why we need to stop and listen to what He has to say. We need to stop and analyse our lives, present our problems, talk to Him about our worries. You will be surprised that He is really listening. Then perhaps the hardest part is to let Him speak. He gives you new ideas, He opens your eyes when you are doing something wrong. He reveals Himself to you in a personal way. I can’t think of anything more amazing than knowing that God wants to be with me.

It is easy to get caught up in being busy, and to forget that you are nothing without Him. There are people in life who choose never to stop, or forget what it means to stop. But are stunned into stopping when, death, sickness, or trouble hits home. God is so merciful that He is always waiting no matter what. But what gives us strength to face these situations is the time we spent alone with Him. Even when we don’t understand, we find our strength in being alone with God. A God who speaks, and a God who listens.

Today there are many opportunities, there are many places where one can go to STOP and be with God. A retreat, a live in, with others or alone; God is waiting for you, and wants to be with you. Grab a Bible read a verse, and then STOP and be loved. The most humiliating experience is allowing God to Love us, knowing that we are so unworthy but yet He still loves us.

Stop for 3 days, or for 15 minutes a day but whatever you do STOP in the name of Love.
